Getting Started

The Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) provides clear descriptions of the Essential Skills and work habits important for work, learning and life. Essential Skills are used in virtually all occupations and are transferable from school to work, job to job and sector to sector.

The OSP offers high school students, adult learners, job seekers, workers, employers, teachers, trainers, practitioners, job developers and counsellors a common language, resources and tools that help build competence, confidence and connections.

Click the OSP resource or tool that you want to use.

Learn about the Essential Skills and work habits and see how people use them in work, learning and life. Teachers/trainers/practitioners can search for sample tasks by Essential Skill and occupation to make learning relevant. Employers can create a job ad, job description or job interview checklist that focuses on the Essential Skills, tasks and work habits relevant for the job.
See how workers use Essential Skills on the job in approximately 300 occupations. High school students, adult learners, job seekers and workers can create an OSP Work Plan that focuses on the Essential Skills, job tasks and work habits related to the work placement. Employers record their progress in this work plan. High school students, adult learners, job seekers and workers can use these tools to assess, practice and build their Essential Skills and work habits.
Access the OSP Tracker, OSP brochure and other OSP resources designed for use in a wide range of educational and training contexts. High school students, adult learners, job seekers and workers can create an OSP Transition Plan to transfer their Essential Skills and work habits to work or further education or training. Practitioners and counsellors can use this intake, referral and planning tool to focus on Essential Skills and work habits.
